The objective of this course is getting students acquainted with rearing of poultry species scientifically for meat and egg production. This course, 10 lecturers plus some associated jobs spanning a total period of 14 study-weeks, covers all aspects of chicken husbandry including breeding, feeding, nutrition, housing, equipment, bio-security, and health and welfare issues. Special emphases are given on broiler and layer-type chicken management. Other than commercial chicken production, some introductory topics on parent-stock chicken management and other poultry species like egg- and meat-type ducks management are also discussed under this course. However, at the end of this course, students would be able to gain knowledge on rearing of poultry species at enterprise level as well as they will be confident and motivated to take poultry farming as their own career.
